We congratulate our esteemed colleague and firm partner, Mitchell B. Goldberg, on his 2019 Vanguard Award, presented by the Chicago Bar Association (CBA) at a luncheon held on April 10, 2019 at the Standard Club. This prestigious award honors individuals and institutions who have made the law and legal profession more accessible to and reflective of the community at large. Mitch was nominated by the Decalogue Society to receive the Vanguard Award for his leadership and contributions to promote strength, professionalism and diversity across the legal community, his work to build solidarity to promote access to justice and combat discrimination, and for his mentoring efforts among law students.
As President of the Decalogue Society of Lawyers from 2017-2018, Mitch organized a coalition of more than 20 groups to speak out against anti-Semitism, racism and hate following the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, VA in August 2017. Under Mitch’s leadership, the Decalogue Society partnered with the CBA and other bar associations to launch a “Lawyers Call to Action” to work with non-profits that address gun violence in Chicago. Additionally, Mitch helped launch the Cook County Sheriff’s “Hate Crimes Hotline” and continues to serve as a member of the Sheriff’s Tolerance Council.
Mitch is a leader in several bar associations, serves as an adjunct faculty member at IIT-Kent College of Law, a mediation coach at Northwestern University, and works in several volunteer capacities at DePaul University, including as Chairman of the Liberal Arts and Social Sciences College Dean’s advisory board.
Please join us in congratulating Mitch on this well-deserved recognition.
