John F. Mahoney joined the firm in October 2005 as a business advisor and counselor to for-profit and not-for-profit clients on business formation and entity selection, taxation, financing and equity investment, governance, employment, estate planning, and related corporate matters.
With extensive business and leadership experience, within the legal profession and beyond, John has the ability to serve as a true counselor for his clients. John appreciates the difficulty and importance of momentum- and consensus-building in large membership organizations. And he approaches every client engagement by standing in the shoes of his clients to outline a course of action that takes into consideration the legal issues and problems they face.
John honed his teamwork and employee-relations skills as chairman of the Operations Committee of Chuhak & Tecson, P.C., running the day-to-day operations of the firm while continuing his law practice. He started his career as an auditor with Price Waterhouse (now Price Waterhouse Coopers). In 2007, John was elected Mayor of the Village of Palos Park, a beautiful rural hamlet in southwest Cook County, and prior to that was elected Commissioner of public health and safety for the village. An avid individual investor since his teenage years, John also enjoys mountain-biking the 11,000+ acres of forest preserve trails near his home, and playing basketball.
